Case study - Waddle Basement Waterproofing

Overview:

The Homeowner was selling her home and needed to get a major leak in the basement fixed since it was scaring away potential home buyers.

Challenge:

Judy Waddle had lived in her home for more than 50 years. For as long as she could remember, the basement had always been wet. It had that musty smell, but over the years she had just gotten used to it.

Once the house got too much to take care of for a woman in her 80’s, Judy decided to sell it and move to a retirement community. She had her home listed for quite a long time and had several offers fall through because of the wet basement issue. Her realtor advised her that she likely wouldn’t be able to sell her home until the water issue was resolved. So Judy reached out to Midwest Foundation Repair.

Todd Heithoff, a System Design Specialist with Midwest Foundation Repair was sent to inspect Judy’s basement. He says he goes into every appointment as if he were meeting with his grandmother. “She’s one of the most important people in my life. It gives me a sense of pride when I can help people in a way that would make my grandmother, proud,” Todd said.

Todd worked with Judy to help her understand the issue and also to help her feel good about her decision. Despite checking out other companies, Judy chose Midwest because of her confidence in our warranty, and also because of the extra time Matt spent with her to explain and customize her solution.

Solution

In the end, Todd designed a basement waterproofing solution which included the non-clogging WaterGuard® interior drainage system. Part of the basement needed to be protected from moisture entering the basement, so he designed a solution that included a layer of basement sealer to protect from mold, as well as CleanSpace® Basement Wall Vapor Barrier in the area of the major water intrusion point. He also replaced the Sump Pump and an old discharge line with a new one.

Results:

The day after the installation, Judy reported that a storm had dropped 3 inches of rain and that her basement was completely dry. And, less than two weeks after the repair had been completed, she accepted an offer on her home. Needless to say, she felt very satisfied with the job that Midwest performed.
