Sagging Floors above a Crawl Space?

Saggy floors or girders under your Crawl Space? Are the piers holding the floor and girders settling? Generally it means trouble for your crawl space and can result in unlevel floors, doors and windows that stick, or worse, won't open or close, and those nasty cracks in the dry wall are always needing fixed and repaired.
Let's take a moment and list some of the causes:
- Floor framing has a spanning distance that is too far. This has caused a sag in the floor over time.
- Floor framing is weakened by moisture and rot, and then in turn has sagged.
- Piers holding the flooring up could have supports or footings that have simply sunk and settled.
- Weight added to the floor greater that what the floor was designed for.
All of these are possible, and most of the time one or more of these things is the cause of the sinking floor. Is there anything that can be done? Absolutely!! Simply put, the floor needs to be supported.
