The end of the street is sliding down the hill, including the house. This caused all of the foundation issues.

This house in Mason City sits at the very end of a street. The end of the street slopes down to a grassy wooded area. As the earth and soil moves and slides down the hill, it is putting addtional stress on the home. This stress has caused the foundation to settle and has settled beyond its limits. This has caused the stair step cracking you see in the photo.
