100-Year-Old Wall Support

100-Year-Old Wall Support 100-Year-Old Wall Support

This 100-year-old house had walls that were starting to bow and this homeowner was worried that the foundation may collapse. This bowing-wall problem is caused by the normal geostatic pressure and water pressure pressing the wall for 100 years. We fixed this issue by installing wall support to stabilize the walls and keep them upright.

This property was actually a rental home for the customer, and during the inspection, the inspector pointed out some problems with the walls that needed to be fixed before they could give they okay. Specifically, the south wall of the house was bowing about 1 1/2 inches and it needed immediate support.

Since there were some challenges with the project, like the use of Red Clay tile, our team decided that Power Braces would be the best option. We carefully chose these braces because they were the most suitable solution considering the specific constraints and difficulties of the project.

By using Power Braces, we were able to stabilize the wall effectively. It provided the customer with a solution that was appropriate and efficient, addressing their needs without any unnecessary extra steps.

This homeowner wanted to protect her 100-year-old house's walls that were starting to bow and fall in. This was caused by the geostatic pressure and water pressure against the walls that have been building up for 100 years now. We installed GeoLock channel anchors to stabilize the walls and keep them upright.

Professional Home Foundation Repairs

Midwest Foundation Repair is committed to customer service and is proud to serve our area. We have a professionally trained team of technicians that are ready to help you find the best solution using quality products from the best manufacturers in the business. We want to work with you so that you can have the best results for your home!

Problems with your foundation can seem like a tiresome thing to have to deal with, but we have the products that can help. Foundation disrepair is often caused by broken or weakened soil that cannot support the weight of the structure.

Common warning signs of foundation problems:

  • Uneven or sloping floors
  • Cracks in the floor
  • Cracks in interior wall
  • Inward bowing walls
  • Sagging floors over a crawl space
  • Hard to open windows and doors
  • Tilting chimneys
  • Street creep
  • Cracks in exterior wall

This issue can be resolved by installing foundation piers and jack posts which will use stable soil farther down beneath the house. As well, by installing helical piers, I-Beam wall braces or wall anchors, you can permanently correct bowing, leaning walls as well as improve the structural integrity of the house.

Excellent Basement Waterproofing and Crawl Space Repairs

Crawl Space After

A flooded basement or a sump pump problem can seem like a huge problem. However, we have the products to help remedy the problem and make your basement a dry, clean space again. Some of the major symptoms of a waterproofing problem are damp floors or walls, pooling or standing water crystaline deposits on concrete surfaces, musty odors, and condensation. For crawl spaces, many of the warning signs are the same with the addition of wood rot and sagging floors in the house.

When waterproofing problems occur, whether in a crawl space or a basement, the first step is to install a professional-grade sump pump like the TripleSafe sump pump. By installing vapor barriers, thermal insulation, and dehumidifiers, you can also seal out moisture and bugs while keeping the space dry, clean, and energy-efficient. For problems with sagging floors above a crawl space, jack posts are the sure way to correct failing supports.

Intelligent Concrete Lifting and Concrete Repair in Ames, IA

Troubles with uneven concrete can cause a serious tripping hazard that can lead to other problems. When concrete in your home, sidewalk or patio begins to sink, then you need the PolyLevel® concrete lifting system. The way it works is that the PolyLevel® gets injected underneath the concrete slab which raises it to the appropriate height so that it can be even with the concrete surrounding it. This is not only quicker and easier than traditional methods, but also more permanent and cost-effective.

We also offer comprehensive concrete repair services that can restore your concrete slab's appearance and stability. Your concrete can become damaged over time when it is repeatedly exposed to moisture, freezing temperatures, and shifting soils. When your concrete driveway or sidewalk is in poor shape, it compromises the look and value of your home or business. That's why we offer solutions to repair and protect your concrete slabs, including:

    • Cracked Concrete Repair

Job Stories From Ames, IA
Window Well Installation in Ames, IA

This homeowner wanted to keep her house up to date and make sure the basement windows were protected by good window wells. She gave Midwest a call because we had done waterproofing work for her in the past and knew we could get her taken care of. System Design Specialist, Austin Dermody, came out to meet with her. Austin looked at the area of concern, and saw the window wells she currently had were metal which were rusting out and not secured to her house. Water, snow, and other debris would get in the window well and cause issues. Austin went back to the homeowner, and discussed replacing the metal window well with a strong durable PolyWell and cover it with a strong, durable cover. The homeowner was all in to get this fixes, so we sent out our installation team. There is no doubt this homeowner has the peace of mind she was looking for with her window wells.

Water issues in Ames, IA

Craig was working on his basement one Saturday afternoon and realized there were damp parts of the carpet. He was concerned on where those spots were coming from. Monday morning Craig made a call out to Midwest Basement Systems and asked to make an appointment. Taylor was happy to schedule him with one of our experts Kyle. Kyle went out and took a look at the issues and told Craig that something needed to be done before we receive a big rain.

Kyle told him that he should have our WaterGuard installed. WaterGuard is a piping system engineered specifically to be a very efficient and long lasting interior perimeter basement waterproofing system. WaterGuard sits on top of the footing instead of alongside the footing. This is important because the mud can't get into the drain.

Craig signed the contract and made an appointment for Julio to come out to his house and get the work done. Julio finished the job and Craig was very happy with how it was done. He was very happy with the whole process he went through to get this done. He is very happy that there is a lifetime transferable warranty on the job that was completed.

Concrete Leveling in Ames, IA

Al noticed some uneven concrete areas in front of his house and wanted them to be fixed. The uneven concrete had created dangerous tripping hazards. He called Midwest Basement Systems and we visited his property to let him know how we could help him solve his problem. Al was ready to do it as soon as possible.

Our production team went out to Ames and leveled his concrete by drilling a hole into the ground and raising the concrete through that drilled hole by injecting PolyLevel. This process does not take long and it does not make a big mess. Al was very happy with the way it turned out that he said he would recommend us next time somebody needs help!

Project Location: Ames, IA
I'm looking to get a 4' x 9' concrete porch/approach and sidewalk leveled. One side of the porch has dropped about 1.5 inches. The porch is a solid slab resting on cinder block foundation on two of the exposed side, the other two side are up against the house so I don't know if there anything besides fill under those sides. The sidewalk leading up to it has also dropped significantly, looking at nearly 4 inches of lift where the sidewalk meets the porch. Opposite end would not need any work.
