The homeowners wanted to start storing things in their crawl space. There crawl space was so dirty they thought there could be snakes or mice in there. They called us and wanted us to come out and fix them problem. We encapsulated the crawl space so they could store boxes of things in the crawl space. The encapsulation also will help with mold and mildew.
Mold can be one of the worst things to happen to a home, and, it doesn't need much to grow. In a dark damp environment, mold can grow after 24 hours. This is why it's important to ensure that your home is able to keep water out of your basement.
For this home, we were able to install CleanSpace, which involves the installation of a durable vapor barrier that completely seals off the crawl space from outside elements. This multi-layered liner, made of heavy-duty material, acts as a moisture barrier, preventing the intrusion of water vapor, mold, mildew, and pests into the crawl space. CleanSpace encapsulation helps to maintain a clean and dry environment, improving indoor air quality, reducing the risk of mold growth, and enhancing the overall structural integrity of the home.
This customer was experiencing cold floors caused by poor insolation of their crawl space. We installed full encapsulation with insulation to walls and rim joists of the crawlspace.
Homeowner Louis R. in Norwalk, IA was looking to check off some home improvement projects starting with ridding the crawlspace of dampness and humidity that was affecting the rest of his home.
System Design Specialist James visited the home to provide a free, same-day estimate. We started by installing Cleanspace with a drainage mat to provide a protective barrier from the ground to the home. Next, we blocked off exterior vents, and installed a SmartDrain with our Sedona dehumidifier. With our system, we were able to control the moisture in the crawlspace which benefited the rest of the home.
Louis closed on his new house in September 2021 and wanted to address the issue of excessive moisture and high humidity levels in the crawl space. Excess moisture can lead to a host of problems, including mold growth, musty odors, and potential damage to the structural integrity of the house. To tackle this issue and create a more comfortable living space for Louis, we implemented a comprehensive moisture control system.
The first step involved installing CleanSpace, a durable vapor barrier that acts as a moisture barrier between the ground and the crawl space. This effective barrier prevents moisture from entering the crawl space, thus reducing the humidity levels. To further enhance the moisture control, we incorporated a drainage mat, which allows any water accumulation to be channeled away effectively.
Because of the impact of open vents on moisture infiltration, we proceeded to block off the vents, preventing outside air and humidity from entering the crawl space. This step was crucial in maintaining a controlled environment and preventing excess moisture buildup.
To efficiently manage any potential water intrusion, we installed a SmartDrain, a smart sump pump system designed to detect and pump out any excess water that may enter the crawl space. This added layer of protection ensured that Louis' crawl space remained dry and free from water-related issues.
Lastly, we implemented a Sedona dehumidifier, specifically designed for crawl spaces. The Sedona effectively regulates humidity levels, removing excess moisture from the air and creating a healthier environment.
